Istiakur started his PhD in Construction Engineering and Management in Fall 2023. Istiakur's research lies in researching Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data to evaluate surface conditions of transportation assets. His main goal is to enhance infrastructure maintenance strategies by utilizing cutting-edge technologies.

Outside of academia, Istiakur enjoys participating in various outdoor activities and sports, such as cricket, tennis, pickleball, and soccer. He also loves to explore new places through his travels, constantly seeking new experiences.
