Chasing Dreams -Felicia Carlsson
Visual Art 5 piecesÌý
Chasing Dreams follows a model in multiple realities and dimensions. Deconstructing reality and the tempered normal, creating a dynamic world that parallels our own. Four images are inspired by landscapes, largely drawing on memories from my childhood. The fifth image captures reality: being surrounded by the camera and all being documented.Ìý

Felicia Carlsson is an artist who predominantly works with photography. Previously, she has done extensive work with film analysis, focusing strictly on the 20th century and exploring themes of race, propaganda, and politics in film. Lately, she is pushing her creative envelope, exploring themes of whimsicality and manipulating photographs. This new inspiration comes from a form of escapism in response to recent events. Presently, she is working with constructed materials, things people tend to throw away or push aside, to create art. The direction she takes in this leap strives to incorporate these elements while maintaining a chimerical integrity for the work.Ìý

Chasing Dreams is a project that draws on inspiration from surrealist artwork. Whimsicality and eccentricity have been stimuli for my creative process. With the world feeling somber as of late, escapism is imperative to happiness. Chasing Dreams allows the viewer to enter a space that narrows the world. A model enters this parallel reality. I created these worlds inspired by my childhood. Growing up in South Florida gave me a multitude of different experiences. I was able to become super connected to nature, as well as the manmade. Being by the swamp, the water, and Miami gave me valuable experiences that continue to influence my everyday experiences. There are times I wish to go back to childhood, where naivety and wonder were encouraged. However, you quickly become reminded that that is no longer possible. The flow of my artwork and the order in which they are placed is a stark reminder of that.Ìý
