Representing the San Luis Valley - Joaquin Salinas is a senior at the University of Colorado Boulder that’s currently in the process of completing his degree in Media Production with a minor in film studies. Joaquin is also a co-founder of the Valley Floor, a creative collective that consists of himself, Jude Walzl, and Damion Garcia. He has released a handful of short films, all of which can be viewed on his YouTube under the handle of yunggiftednbrown. Recently, Joaquin has been working on an experimental short film titled: Mexican Dream.Ìý

Don't Call Me Whitey is an experimental documentary that utilizes found found in order to reexamine the development of Mexican-American identity throughout U.S. history. This film roughly explores three eras of Mexican-American and/or Chicano history: the Assimilation Era (1920s-1950s), the Radicalization Era (1960s-1980s), and the Multiculturalism Era (1980s-2020s). However, the opening sequence of the film, affectionately referred to as "A Grotesque Summary of Mexican History," offers an oversimplified retelling of Mexican history which ultimately led to the creation of the Mexican-American.
