Max Julian, better known by their online alias “gamigross,” is a digital media artist specializing in illustration, graphic design, and 3D animation. Wielding the mighty power of these practices and his obsession with sci-fi, fantasy, and campy horror, they create offbeat stories and art that usually involve gnarly monsters. No matter what they’re making, they're always learning some new technique or program (this most often means browsing Reddit threads trying to troubleshoot a specific Blender issue).
“Fight the Flood” is a satirical military propaganda cartoon set in a world devastated by an apocalyptic event known as the Boiling Flood. Produced by the corporate fascist entity CONNECT, it aims to recruit the people of its colonies as Lucifin Divers. The Lucifin Divers are deep sea soldiers tasked with defending CONNECT’s technology from hostile flood beasts while extracting resources from submerged civilizations.
“Fight the Flood” touches on the dangers of nostalgia and explores the fascist state as the militaristic, fear-driven death cult it is using glamorized imagery of war. In a not-so-shocking twist at the end, this idealized depiction is turned on its head.
