Entomology Collection Assistant

Position: Multiple Research Assistant PositionsÌý
Hourly Pay Rate: $26.50

Multiple research assistant positions to help with a study involving moth pollination. Assistants will be responsible for sorting, pinning, spreading, imaging, and properly labeling insect samples for preservation and curation in the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History's Entomological collection. Assistant will learn how to identify moth taxa to family (and in some cases genus or species level) and also notate when traces of pollen are observed on individual samples. Experience working with insect specimens is preferred but training will be included in the process.Ìý

Graduate Student Education Assistant

Position: Graduate Student Education Assistant
Hourly Pay Rate: $30

Position Summary:

The Graduate Student Education Assistant supports the scheduling, developing, preparing for and staffing of outreach and onsite programs and educational materials. Student employees will be trained to conduct guided programs, engage with object handling, and care of education collections. This position provides hands-on experience in the public side of museum experiences as well as care and management of education collection while supporting day-to-day activities.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Tour and program scheduling for onsite and offsite events, including monitoring the dept email weekly, replying to requests, sending confirmations and leading tours as needed. Serve as a liaision to teachers, and maintain tour database.Ìý
  • Discovery Kit scheduling for all kit reservations, pickup/drop off times, monitoring kit inventories, replace lost/damaged items as needed and collecting evaluations.Ìý
  • Scheduling student staff and volunteers to guide tours, and communicate with volunteers aabout their availability. Including assisting with volunteer training.ÌýÌý
  • Maintenance of educational materials – keeping the discovery corner, education storage areas, Discovery carts and office supply closets cleaned and stocked with necessary items.Ìý
  • Attend meeting such as All Hands, public section, project committees as assigned.Ìý
  • Follow proper handling, safety, and collections care protocols

Preferred Qualifications:Ìý

Work Schedule & Compensation:

  • 15 – 20 hours per week, flexible
