Do I qualify for a MRI study?
Please ensure you meet the following basic criteria before proceeding. Anyone who does not meet these basic criteria may not be safe in our MRI environment.
Basic Criteria for MRI Study Participation
- You do not have any unremovable metallic objects or metallic fragments in or on your body
- You weigh less than 250 lbs
- You are not claustrophobic

TEENAGERS (13-18)
No actively enrolling studies at this time.
ADULTS (18+)
Ìý
- Phase 1: Interview about your thoughts and feelings, cognitive questions, computer surveys. Can take place remotely (via Zoom) or in person at CU Boulder (your choice!). Pays $25/hour for approximately 2-4 hours.
- Phase 2b: Behavioral Lab Tasks: including, computer tasks, physiological monitoring (e.g., heart rate) questionnaires. Takes place in person at CU Boulder. Pays $25/hour for up to 3 hours.
- Phase 2a: fMRI Scan: Option to view emotional images and think about emotions while in a brain imaging scanner, computer tasks, questionnaires. Phase 2b will take place in person at CU Boulder. Pays $25/hour for approximately 3 hours.
- Phase 3: Follow-ups: Opportunities to participate in paid follow-up interview/surveys four times a year for up to 2 years. Can take place remotely (via Zoom) or in person (your choice!). Pays $25/hour (1 hour each) with up to 8 surveys spread over 2 years (8 hours total).
- Opportunities to participate in additional studies may also be available.
To qualify, you must be between the ages of 18-25 years, be able to attend IN-PERSON sessions in the Boulder/Denver, Colorado metropolitan area, and either have a personal history of bipolar disorder OR no mental health history and complete a brief pre-screening survey.
